B1 Level

The programs are designed for diplomats, who already have the level B2. The Intensive Course allows the students to gain the level C1 within 4-8 weeks. The benefit of our program is an immersion in Russian training with focus on Occupational Domain.


Aims of B1 Russian Intensive Course

  • understand the main points of texts and dialogues on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
  • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
  • deal with most situations that might arise on a trip to areas where the language is used;
  • produce simple coherent texts on topics with which they are familiar or in which they have a personal interest;
  • describe experiences and events, ambitions and aspirations and briefly justify opinions or explain plans.

Outcomes of B1 Intensive Course

By the end of B1 Intensive Course students have to

  • be able to read short texts from newspapers, magazines and books;
  • be able to write a text of 20 sentences on one of the given topics: yourself, your family, study, learning a foreign language, working day, free time, hometown, health or weather; write a short summary of a text you read or heard on a given topic;
  • understand dialogues and express their own judgment about the statements and actions of the speakers, understand spoken announcements, news, sociocultural information;
  • be able to participate in dialogues in a significantly wide range of everyday situations, initiate, maintain and end a dialogues;
  • use grammar and lexical skills for formulating statements related to the needs arising in simple standard situations.

Short-term Program

  • 4 weeks = 80 academic hours (20 hours per week/ 4 hours per day)

Medium-term Program

  • 6 weeks = 120 academic hours (20 hours per week / 4 hours per day)

Long-term Program

  • 8 weeks = 160 academic hours
    (20 hours per week / 4 hours per day)

* The school can arrange the lessons (4 hours with short break) in the morning OR afternoon for working students.

B2 Level

Aims of B2 Russian Intensive Course

  • To deepen all the linguistic skills acquired previously;
  • To develop their morphological, syntactic and lexical skills;
  • To listen to complicated texts and select means of communication appropriate to a situation, communicate in various situations;
  • To express their opinion, grasp ideas, determine logical links and put forward the arguments;
  • To gain the competence which enables them to communicate logically, fluently and correctly in Russian in various situations.

Outcomes of B2 Intensive Course

By the end of B2 Intensive Course students have to

  • To deepen all the linguistic skills acquired previously;

C1 Level

Aims of C1 Russian Intensive Course

  • To achieve a high level of Russian language proficiency in order to handle the normal range of social and professional matters with which a Diplomat may be required to deal with in an official capacity.
  • To demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, with any native speakers they are likely to come into contact with.
  • To use Russian language flexibly and effectively for social and professional purposes.
  • To understand a wide range of demanding and complex language structures, both spoken and written.
  • To produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
  • Building upon acquired communicative skills, to be able to gain maximum benefit from immersion/home stay and in-country training.

Outcomes of C1 Intensive Course

By the end of C1 Intensive Course students have to

  • To be able to express themselves fluently, spontaneously and almost effortlessly.
  • To acquire a good command of a broad lexical repertoire allowing gaps to be readily overcome with circumlocution and repair techniques.
  • To achieve a pass in all milestone tests and final examinations.
  • To develop awareness and familiarization with regional accents, social register and register shifts.
  • To be able to use the language flexibly and effectively for social purposes, including emotional, allusive and joking usage and to recognise a wide range of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms.

General courses

Courses Description
A1

A student can get acquainted and maintain a conversation in standard everyday situations; has minimal language means sufficient to survive in a Russian-speaking country, their vocabulary can reach 900-1000 lexical units, including 240 internationalisms and about 30 points of speech etiquette (the course of study is at least 60-80 lecture hours).

A2

A student who has a basic level of language has an initial communicative competence that allows them to communicate in a limited number of situations in everyday and socio-cultural spheres of communication. In other words, the student will be able to shop at the store himself, use local public transport, talk about the weather, exchange everyday phrases with colleagues and teachers, and so on.

The minimum vocabulary should reach 1300 items.

However, basic competence in Russian as a foreign language is not enough for studying in Russian educational institutions, with the exception of preparatory faculties (programs or courses) for foreigners, where future students undergo one-year special language training.

B1

A student who has successfully passed the test for the first level of language proficiency at the intermediate level, which allows him to communicate in everyday, socio-cultural, educational and professional spheres of communication. In other words, the student feels more confident in a Russian-speaking country, and is able to communicate in most routine situations.This corresponds to the state standard for Russian as a foreign language.

The minimum vocabulary should reach 2300 items already.

The first level of proficiency in Russian as a foreign language is sufficient for admission to Russian educational institutions, in particular to higher educational institutions, that is, universities, institutes and academies. As a rule, this level is reached by students who have completed preparatory programs (faculties or courses) for foreigners after a year of special language training.

B2

Successful completion of the second level test indicates a relatively high level of communicative competence, which allows the student to satisfy his basic communicative needs in all areas of communication and carry out professional activities in Russian in related subject areas: humanities (except philology), engineering, natural sciences, etc.

The vocabulary minimum should reach 10 000 items.

The second level of proficiency in Russian as a foreign language is a prerequisite for obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree in Russian higher educational institutions (with the exception of a bachelor's or master's degree in philology).

Exams that you will be able to pass:

  • TORFL (The Second Certification Level)
C1

A student who has successfully passed the third level test has a high level of communicative competence, which allows them to satisfy their communicative needs in all areas of communication and engage in professional philological activities in Russian.

The minimum vocabulary should reach 12 000 items, 7 000 of them in active vocabulary.

This certificate is a prerequisite for obtaining a bachelor's degree in philology in Russian higher educational institutions.

  • Diplomatic Service Language Examination (the USA)

C2

Successful performance in the fourth level test indicates Russian language proficiency and competence close to the competence of a native speaker of the Russian language.

The minimum vocabulary should reach 20 000 items, 8 000 of them in active vocabulary.

This certificate is a prerequisite for obtaining a master's degree in philology in Russian higher educational institutions, which entitles you to any kind of teaching or scientific activity in the field of the Russian language.
